How to get organized.....

I'm struggling to get organized. It's hard when you are naturally the opposite. I am a SCATTER BRAIN! I can't even tell you how loopy I am sometimes. I forget stuff on a regular basis.

Any suggestions on how NOT to forget stuff as a waitress?

PS Does anyone know what happened to Sojourner Browny?? His blog disappeared and I haven't heard from him in a long time!?

Pay someone to kick you in the shins every time you forget something important?
Have it tatooed on your forearm?
Put a quarter in a jar every time your forget?

No wait...

Write it down?

Yeah, I like that one best.

I will take this moment to say, I stand in awe of any waitress or waiter. You have a tough job.

I would NEVER be one. I say this only because I know that one day I would crack. Someone would say, "Hey, I asked you for a cup of coffee," and I would look back and say, "Get off your ass and get it yourself." I'm sure that I wouldn't be tipped very well.

That's off-topic I know. Sorry. LOL

Wish I had some good advice for this one...Personally, I have to write everything down or I will forget!! Bek's idea about associations is a good one too. Good luck! :)

I was wondering the same about Sojourner Browny. I was reading him regularly. Let me know. Talk to you later. :)

If it gets too busy I started saying to myself "ok, I need three things." or "I need four things."

that way if I haven't gotten four things I know I've forgotten something.

you can't write everything down. hope that helps.

For waiting tables - have a routine. This way you know if you've left something out. And the rest is really almost common sense. (That's not my strong point, so it was the toughest part when I was a waiter!)

When something goes wrong in the customer's world, it's the one thing that stands out, and if it isn't right quickly, it ruins the meal. I made it a point to be visible on the floor as often as I could so a customer didn't have to sit and stew over that one wrong thing. I'd see right away if someone in my section had that look.

And smile smile smile! Even at the people who obviously deserve tabasco in the cole slaw...

I try really hard to be organized. I do. It only works half the time.
